Traditionally ‘local’ in marketing terms meant local press and local radio, making your premises inviting with signs and window displays and possibly dropping leaflets in the local area.

For example, ensuring your business (and directions to it) can be found on mobile devices as well as desktop computers.

The good news is that Google and Facebook have a lot of tools which can be extremely helpful for local businesses.  In fact, Google have dedicated whole pages for every local business. Every business should take up their page.

And, did you also know, for example, that you can advertise in just your locality on both Google Adwords and Facebook Advertising? Or find target audiences on just your topic?

Other ways to get noticed locally include on-line and off-line directories, referral strategies and customer retention schemes which could all be part of a marketing plan aimed at attracting customers in your town, county or area.
